Media

The press was an active participant in political life in the "TRNC," and there was increasing controversy over the role of the progovernment press in influencing election outcomes. There was no law regulating media behavior or ethics. The state-controlled radio and television was 80 percent fed from Turkish national television. There were ten daily papers in the north in 1990, three owned by pro-Denktas business magnate Asil Nadir, three affiliated with parties, and four independents, including one that focused on financial matters.
